Amy Jo Johnson: International Demonstration Draft Remarks

I am a blessed woman who lives in a bubble of freedom... My generation of women in this bubble know what it is to have choice- the most incredible, private, important choice we can possibly ever make in our lives... Thank you Emma Goldman... Thank you Margaret Sanger... Thank you Sarah Weddington... Thank you to all of our foremothers and fathers who pioneered this reality for us.

As I grow and evolve as a human I am learning that to be happy I must break out of this bubble and open my self up to a higher collective consciousness. In doing this I am faced with mind-boggling atrocities. I am learning the injustices that this world still holds.

Emma Goldman and Margaret Sanger (and all the other courageous pioneers of our integrity) laid the groundwork, they paved the way and now we are taking the baton and we must finish this race.

We will not be satisfied until every child on this planet is cared for and loved. And this will be because every woman had the education, tools, and choice of when, and if a child will be brought in to this world-

I'm afraid this can not occur as long as the United States stands in opposition to the global consensus on these issues.

This will not occur as long as the United States continues with their denial of the Beijing Platform and the refusal of the Cairo Consensus.

And this will definitely not occur as long as the United States continues with the horrific implementation of the Global Gag Rule

There has to be a universal shift in consciousness for these inhumane ways to not be a part of this worlds reality! There has to be.

I am honored to be a member of the Planned Parenthood Board of Advocates. I am proud and excited to march beside so many creative, innovative, and inspiring women and men, some who have traveled literally around the world to be here today. They have given their whole lives so that woman can have theirs- truly inspiring people.

And finally, I would just like to congratulate Monica and Sapana, who have just received the Margaret Sanger award. This is Planned Parenthood's highest recognition. People like this teach us what the word altruism really means.

I believe that there is a way to shift the minds of the unconscious! I believe in this march and I believe in the rights of a woman's life! - thank you.
