TVGen Welcome to the TVGEN/Yahoo! Chat Auditorium. Our guest tonight is actress Amy Jo Johnson. Amy stars in the new WB series Felicity, which takes a poignant and humorous view of the painful reality of college life. She plays Felicity's best friend, Julie. Johnson's screen credits also include 132 episodes of Power Rangers as Kimberly, the pink ranger! Welcome Amy Jo, glad you could join us this evening. Amy Jo Hello, welcome, how are you doing? Question Happy Birthday....are your friends throwing you a big party? Amy Jo Not that I know of, but thank you! Question Amy, first of all, I think all of your performances, Power Rangers, Killing Mr. Griffin, Perfect Body and Susie Q have all been great--- you are a terrific actress. My Question: how did you get into acting? What made you want to start acting? Amy Jo I've been wanting to act since I was seven. I didn't start pursuing it until I was 19. I just kind of went for it. There was no road map to go by. It's luck and fate and talent. Hopefully talent. Question Amy, why did you leave MMPR? Was it a writer decision to write you out or a personal one? Amy Jo I did it for two years and I was just ready to move on. I learned a lot, it was my first job, but I was ready to move on. Question How did they select you for your first role in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Amy Jo I went to eight or nine auditions, and I think my gymnastics background really helped me get the job. Question What was it like to work on a show like Power Rangers? Did you have to do any of the fighting yourself? Amy Jo I did the fighting when I was a civilian, but when I was a Ranger in the suit it was actually a stunt double. Question What is your role in the Steve Prefontaine movie "Without Limits"? Amy Jo I have a little affair with Billy Crudup's character, Steve Prefontaine, a very small part. Question Any other projects? Plus you're No. 2 on the Top 50 Best Looking Women of the World list with me and my friend Justin! Amy Jo Who's No. 1? Felicity tomorrow night on WB at 9 pm/ET right after Buffy, is the new show I'm on. Question What is the best part about working on such a highly anticipated show? does it make you nervous about the series premiere? Amy Jo Yes, it makes me a bit nervous because there is a lot ot live up to you know. But I feel so blessed to be part of such a well written show with so many amazing people working on it. Question Amy, I went to Dennis Yarmouth High School when you were a senior there. Not only did I want to congratulate you on suceeding, I wanted to ask if acting was something you always wanted to pursue? Amy Jo Thank you very much. Yes this is something I've always wanted to do. And, Hi! How are you? Question Do you have a fan club? Amy Jo Roxanne Nolan set up a fan club for me on the Internet. I talk to her frequently and its pretty cool. I don't ahve the address, but if you do a search for it on yahoo.com you'll find it. Roxanne is the president. Question What's your favorite memory growing up? Amy Jo Christmas time with my family. Question Hi, Amy, I just wanted to know if you are going to attempt a music career? Amy Jo Yes, I am attempting a music career. And its hard doing Felicity, but I'm rehearsing with my band and playing around Hollywood. Question What kind of music do you like? Amy Jo i love all kinds of music, from the Grateful Dead to Natalie Merchant and Peter Gabriel and Vollenweider and a whole bunch of stuff. Question Is it a coincidnece that you were cast in a role that shares your sister's name? Amy Jo It is a coincidence, it has nothing to do with anything and its kind of cool. Question Which production you were cast in has been the most fun for you? Amy Jo Right now I'd have to say absolutely, definately this, the Felicity production. I had a blast on Perfect Body and my costar Tara Boger is one of my best friends. From Power Rangers, David Yost is a good friend. I have made a lot of friends through the shows I have done. Question What is your favorite movie? Amy Jo Harold and Maude, second choice Cinema Paradiso. Question Do people recognize you on the street? If so what is the most commen request that fans ask? Amy Jo Up until now its ususally been little kids that recognize me from Power Rangers. So they just kind of smile at me and once in a while say something, but thats it. And its still mostly like that. Question Will you marry me? Amy Jo Sorry, Ian but no. Question I've heard rumors of a third PR movie and that you would return----is that true? Amy Jo There may be a third movie, but I won't be returning. Question Does your character on the show have any of your real life characteristics? Amy Jo Yes, Julie plays guitar and so do I. And I also went to school in New York when I was 18. So I kind of had the same experiences going to college in NYC and facing yourself and all that crazy stuff. Question Is being on Felicity different than being in the shows and movies you have already done? Amy Jo Yes, that's a tough question. Yes, its very different because I've never done a prime time series, and a one hour drama, so its whoel new experience for me. Question Are you still a member of Valhalla? Amy Jo Yes Question Will you be attending the Cold Hearts screening? Amy Jo Yes, I will be. Question Amy Jo are you dating any of your costars currently? Amy Jo No, I am not Question Are you tired of the Ally McBeal comparisons already? Amy Jo I'm not tired of them, but i don't think the show is anyhting like Ally McBeal so I don't think its a true comparison. It's more like "My So Called Life". And I think that people make the comparison to Ally McBeal because they have two strong female lead characters. I think thats the only comparison you could make. Question Also, do you keep any contact with the cast of power rangers? Amy Jo David Yost Question I read somewhere that "Killing Mr. Griffin" was your favorite role so far, why? Amy Jo At the time it was my favorite role because it was actually the first part I had gotten that didn't have anything to do with my gymnastics ability. It was exciting to get a part just from my acting talent. Question Do you like being in the media spotlight? Amy Jo You know, I am totally in love with acting and the creative part of it and the media spotlight is just the business part of it. It's something you have to learn how to do but its not necessarily the fun part. Question What is your favorite tv show (other than your own)? Amy Jo Ally McBeal! Question What advice would you give to aspiring actors/actresses? Amy Jo Really dive into classes and teh art of acting and find out if you really truly love acting before you decide to make a career out of it. And by the way by the way the tv I watch most is Nick at Night. Question Do you often surf the net? Amy Jo I haven't really had a lot of time to surf the net lately. Amy Jo Who are you closest to in Felicity? Amy Jo At this point I would say Keri Russell and Scott Speedman. Question What are your hours of work now that you are on Felicity? Amy Jo I've been working five days a week for about 12 hours a day or so. We have a lot of publicity shoots and things like that on our days off though. We shoot mostly in LA on soundstages and we do exteriors in New York which is only one week every couple of months. Question Amy Jo, have you begun to feel a great deal of pressure to perform very well on the show due to the amount of scrutiny the show is facing? Personally, I believe the show looks great as do most of the critics but is that beginning to make you worry? Also are you ready to handle being in the spotlight? Amy Jo You know I don't really think about or try to concentrate on the pressure and the spotlight. I'm just really enjoying the work, the writings and the people I'm working with. Question When will you do the late night talk show circuit? Amy Jo When I'm asked! Question Amy what do the cast people say when they reject you...can you tell when things are going well in an audition? Amy Jo It's a total mystery the whole casting, auditioning experience because you never know what they want and never know what they're thinking, at least in my experience. It's always a surprise. Question Do you plan on doing any movies? Amy Jo I definately hope so! Question What has been your greates achievemnet and what is your goal for the future? Amy Jo Teaching myself to play guitar enough to be able to play out around Hollywood with real great musicians. I feel really proud about my band. And I want to make a record with my band and I want to do a film with actors I admire. Question Amy, do you have any aspirations of being a director? Amy Jo Yes, I do someday. Maybe when I'm in my thirties or forties. I'd like to give that a shot. Question Do you still have an interest in gymnastics? Amy Jo I don't practice it anymore but I love watching it on TV. Question What club can I see your band at? Amy Jo Clubs around Hollywood Question What channel is your new show on? Amy Jo It's on the WB. Check your local listings.
