NEW YORK -- Joining the cast of the off-Broadway hit musical "Love, Janis" are multi-platinum recording artist, Laura Branigan and recording artist and former cast member of the hit WB series "Felicity", Amy Jo Johnson. The two performers will alternate nights stepping into the singing role of Janis Joplin beginning with Amy Jo Johnson on May 10th and Laura Branigan on May 21st.

Now in its 2nd smash year, "Love, Janis" has become the longest-running off-Broadway musical of the 2000-2001 season. Inspired by the eponymous book written by Janis' sister, Laura Joplin, and conceived, adapted, and directed by Randal Myler, "Love, Janis" is a musical celebration of rock & roll's first female superstar, Janis Joplin. Incorporating 19 of her best known songs, including "Piece of My Heart", "Get It While You Can", and "Me and Bobby McGee", as well as spoken text taken directly from Janis' letters to her family, "Love, Janis", is an illuminating, heartbreaking and hard rockin' musical about the woman behind the legend.

When "Love, Janis" opened last April, "USA Today" called it "an unabashed celebration". The "New York Post" called the musical "a potent, fresh and enormously crowd-pleasing evocation of the legacy of Janis Joplin". The "Newark Star-Ledger" called "Love, Janis" "Explosive! A highly enjoyable and loving musical tribute to a genuine wild child".

Laura Branigan, the multi-platinum recording artist and four-time Grammy Award nominee, is launching her comeback makes her off-Broadway debut in "Love, Janis". Best known for a successful music career, she has sold over ten million albums in the United States alone with hit after hit including the songs "Gloria", "How am I Supposed to Live Without You" (with Michael Bolton), "Solitaire", and "Self Control". Having recorded seven albums, Laura Branigan has performed for audiences in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa, touring the world several times. Her four-octave range, and the sheer power of her vocal instrument resonate with fans worldwide. Laura recently released a remake of the ABBA song, "The Winner Takes It All" to rave reviews. This April's sold-out performance at New York's legendary CBGB marked her return to the stage and she is currently working on her latest effort.

Amy Jo Johnson, best known for her starring role as Felicity's folksy singer-songwriter friend Julie Emrick on the hit WB series "Felicity", makes her off-Broadway debut in "Love, Janis". She received rave reviews for her performance as a '60s rock singer who, like Janis Joplin, had to battle the rock establishment, in VH1's first original movie, "Sweetwater: A True Rock Story". Amy Jo can also be heard on the film's soundtrack, as well as on the soundtrack for "Felicity". On the big screen, she appeared in Robert Towne's "Without Limits", "Pursuit of Happiness" with Annabeth Gish and the upcoming independent film "Interstate 60" with Gary Oldman and James Marsden. Amy Jo has performed her own music live at some of L.A.'s hottest music venues including The Whisky, The Roxy and The Mint. Her debut album, "The Trans-American Treatment", was independently produced and released last year, and is available on her website, Official website.

"Love, Janis" also stars original cast member Catherine Curtin and Tony nominee Amelia Campbell as "speaking Janis", and John Leonard Thompson as the off-stage interviewer. The "Love, Janis" band is Daniel Cipriano, Rob Clores, Larry Etkin, Joel Hoekstra, Joshua Kessler, Eric Massimino, and Joe Stefko.

"Love, Janis" is the inaugural production of Eric Nederlander's new downtown venue, The Village Theater. Formerly the legendary Village Gate, the theater has played host to an eclectic and world-renowned roster of artists, including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Chevy Chase, B.B. King, Groucho Marx, Woody Allen, John Belushi, Richard Pryor, and Tito Puente. Eric Nederlander has reconfigured and reintroduced the property, most recently known as the nightclub Life, as a new downtown home for the arts, carrying on a three-generation Nederlander tradition of operating theaters and presenting entertainment worldwide.
